Options To Sheet Rock

Sheet rock has become less popular because of its perceived environmental drawbacks.

Sheetrock, or drywall, has gotten a bad reputation lately. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission has investigated Chinese-made drywall for emitting toxic gases and being susceptible to mold, making more home buyers and owners cautious about using the once-ubiquitous product in their houses.

Paneling

Wood paneling can be an attractive and much more durable alternative to sheet rock. Using paneling that's attached to stress-skin panels can provide warmth and eliminate any potential problems with standard insulating material.

Strawboard

Strawboard panels are gaining popularity as a wall material in the United States. About 140 million tons of wheat straw are burned every year. Strawboard manufacturers recycle the potential waste material and heat it until natural resins in the straw bind the material together.

Recycled Materials

Recycled material panels are typically much more expensive than sheet rock but can be much more durable and are generally better for the environment. Products such as EcoRock, Dragonboard and Panelite are available online for delivery to your home or construction site.
