Plasterboard, sheetrock, drywall, wallboard -- what's the difference in these terms? Today basically none; the terms are used interchangeably. Plasterboard was probably the original word. It was just that: plaster compressed into a board between two sheets of heavy paper. That's what these materials still are today, although conventional plaster has been replaced with gypsum and other elements that are lighter and stronger. A homeowner can install plasterboard, but it is at least a two-person job. Sheets are heavy and unwieldy.
