Screw Drywall Anchors
Drywall is one of the most common construction materials used for covering interior walls in modern construction. While it has its attributes, it's important to know properly prepare drywall when hanging heavy objects on it. The most common way to secure heavy items to a wall made of drywall is to use a drywall anchor. Properly installed, these will provide a strong and stable point to use when hanging objects, securing shelves, or dealing with a variety of other home improvement needs.
Instructions
1. Locate the spot where you'll be installing your drywall anchor. Drywall anchors won't work if there's a stud behind the wall, so be sure to locate the studs ahead of time with an electronic stud finder.
2. Mark the spot where the anchor will be installed with a pencil.
3. Make a small pilot hole with a No. 3 finishing nail and a hammer. The pilot hole provides a starting point and guide for the tip of the drywall anchor when you begin screwing it in.
4. Place the drywall anchor, tip first, onto the pilot hole. Hold the drywall anchor in place and insert the screwdriver tip into the slots on the back of the anchor.
5. Screw the drywall anchor into the wall by turning the screwdriver to the right. Work with a steady pressure. The threads of the screw will pull the anchor into the wall, and it's not necessary to apply strong pressure to make the anchor go in.
6. Continue screwing until the back edge of the anchor is flush with the wall. The drywall anchor is now installed. Use the screw that came with the drywall anchor to attach items to the wall.
