Repair Metal Corners On Drywall

Corner walls are sometimes reinforced with metal guards to protect from chipping, cracking, and punctures as they are vulnerable to damage, especially when furniture is being moved around. These are found generally around walls that protrude by themselves without a frame such as a door or wood molding. Repairing metal corners on drywall is rather simple and can be done relatively quickly.

Instructions

1. Cut the section. Using a utility knife, make a cut outline around the damaged metal corner to prevent tearing.

2. Remove the metal corner. Cut the damaged metal corner using a hacksaw or metal shears. Cut above and below the damage. Then remove the metal corner using a pry bar and pull out the screws, using the end of a hammer.

3. Cut a replacement section. Measure the section needed for the new corner and cut out new metal corners with metal shears. Remove any excess debris and gypsum in the old area to make way for the new section.

4. Install the new corner. Screw in the new corner piece. Make sure that the new one is aligned with the old corner.

5. Cover the wall. Using a taping knife, apply drywall compound onto the damaged sections. Apply lightly in three coats. After drying, sand lightly for a smooth finish.
