Install Durock On The Concrete Floor

Durock is a necessary material over a flexible surface where tiling will be laid.

Durock is a brand of cement board used in construction when a very stiff surface is needed for laying tile, stone or brick. Applied to a flexible surface, there is a risk for the tile to crack and loosen. The Durock also creates a level surface.

Installation

Durock brand cement board is very strong, but lightweight. It creates a rigid, water-resistant surface as a substrate on floors, countertops and walls. It must be fastened with hot-dipped galavanized roofing nails or with Durock brand wood or steel screws.

Considerations

Since the purpose of Durock as a backer board is to create an immobile surface, it is used on all types of substrate flooring, excluding cement floors. A cement floor is inherently rigid, so adding a layer of cement board is unnecessary.

Benefits

Durock is easy to cut to shape with a razor knife. It does not swell or get soft when it contacts water. It is resistant to mildew and mold, so is ideal for kitchens and bathrooms. It can be used for interior and exterior construction.
