Use A Moisture Resistant Eco-friendly Board

Water-resistant green board should be installed around shower inclosures to prevent mold and mildew.

Moister-resistant green board is used in damp environments such as on the walls in a bathroom or on the walls around a hot tub. Green board is not waterproof, only water resistant, therefore do not apply green board to walls where it would come in contact with water. Its surface is coated with an oily material, which gives it a water-resistant surface. Green board should not be installed on ceilings because of the weight of the material, unless 16-inch, on-center supports are used and it is screwed every 12 inches.

Instructions

1. Measure the length of the wall where the green board is being installed. Transfer the measurement to the green board and place a T drywall square on the mark with the T part of the square hooked on the top of the green board. Place the toe of your shoe up against the bottom of the T square to hold it in place.

2. Score the paper along the T square using a utility knife. Snap the green board in a backward direction, then cut along the backside of the break to remove the excess green board.

3. Measure from the closest, installed piece of green board to any pipes or fixtures to get accurate measurement, then measure from the floor to the pipes or fixtures.

4. Transfer the measurements to the green board and cut the holes for the fixture, using a drywall saw. For pipes, cut the green board in half, through the hole, to fit the green board around the pipe.

5. Screw the piece of green board to the wall every 16 inches, using a drywall drill. Continue these steps until the whole wall is covered.
