Install Flextile Wordpress 980 Over Plaster Walls

Flextile WP 980, when combined with reinforcing fabric on a wall, forms a waterproof barrier to protect a wall or floor in a wet environment. This waterproof barrier is most commonly used beneath tiles. Flextile WP 980 can only be applied on fully-cured cement plaster. If your walls are made of gypsum plaster, you will need to install something on the wall that the Flextile WP 980 can be applied to, such as a tile backer board.

Instructions

1. Clean the area where you will install the Flextile WP 980, using an all-purpose cleaner and a rag. Wait for the walls to dry before proceeding.

2. Apply a liberal coat of Flextile WP 980 to all corners, cracks and coves in the wall. Use a paintbrush to apply the coat of Flextile WP 980 to these areas. The coating should cover the crack, corner or cove and 4 inches on either side of that area.

3. Use scissors to cut the reinforcing fabric, found at tile stores, to fit over the areas where you just applied the Flextile WP 980.

4. Press the reinforcing fabric into the wet Flextile WP 980 so that it becomes embedded within the compound. The compound should bleed through the fabric.

5. Cover the reinforcing fabric with another coating of Flextile WP 980. Wait for the compound to dry. Do not proceed until the compound is dry to the touch, about 2 to 3 hours.

6. Apply a liberal coat of Flextile WP 980 to the entire area. Use a paint roller. Cover the areas you already coated in the previous steps.

7. Cut pieces of reinforcing fabric to cover the wet coat of Flextile WP 980. Cover the entire coating of Flextile WP 980 with reinforcing fabric. Where two pieces of reinforcing fabric meet, the pieces should overlap by 2 inches.

8. Press the reinforcing fabric into the Flextile WP 980 so the compound bleeds through.

9. Flatten any crimps in the fabric with the paint roller.

10. Apply a second coat of Flextile WP 980 to the entire area you just covered in reinforcing fabric. Cover the reinforcing fabric entirely.

11. Allow the Flextile WP 980 to become dry to the touch.

12. Apply a final coat of Flextile WP 980 within 24 hours of applying the previous coat.
