Gorilla masks set the vibe at a party.
Masks are often purchased at high prices for one time use a Halloween party or a costume party. However, making masks is a very simple task that enables one to save money, express creativity and have fun. A gorilla mask is a project that only takes a few hours and few ingredients. However, to do this you will need an armature of a gorilla's head. An armature is framework used by a artist to support a figure that is being sculpted.
Instructions
Sculpt Mask
1. Apply oil-based clay to the life-sized full head armature, establishing the general shape of a gorilla face. Work the clay by hand. Upon establishing the general shape, use the sculpting tools to create the details. Carve out the eyes, plump the cheeks and lips, create wrinkles, and widen the nostrils.
2. Make a two-piece mold out of an industrial gypsum to convert the clay form into latex rubber. The porous nature of gypsum allows water from the liquid latex rubber to soak into it, perfectly replicating the sculpted image. Remove the gypsum once a sufficient thickness is achieved and clean the clay from it.
3. Pour liquid latex into the mask, covering the entire surface. Allow it to sit for a moment and scrape off the excess. Liquid latex dries at room temperature, so let it sit until it is dry. Then, gently peel it from the mold.
4. Paint the mask using black rubber latex airbrush paint. When the mask is fully covered, allow the paint to set and dry. Then, apply the Perma-wet (clear varnish) in order to offer a layer of protection.
