Does that beautiful old picture frame have chips or chunks missing. You can easily repair it in just a few steps.
Instructions
1. The old paint or varnish must be removed. Follow the manufacturers directions for whatever brand of remover you are using. It is usually brushed on, but there are some that are sprayed on. However, the removal process is the same.
2. After the old finished has softened, use a soft bristle brush to remove it. When you have cleaned up all you can with the brush, cover a soft bristle brush with a cloth, dip it in mineral spirits and clean up any residue that is still remaining.
3. Apply a small amount of glue(waterproof) in the area of the damaged section. Mix a small amount of Plaster of Paris according to package directions. Mixture should be the consistency of a thick pudding. Apply a small amount of the plaster to the section being repaired. Use your fingers, a small stick, the end of a brush or whatever sculpting tool you have available to recreate the design to match the rest of the frame.
4. Let the plaster dry thoroughly- several hours or overnight. Use a small brush or a small piece of a kitchen scrubbie(the ones that look like felt but are scratchy for cleaning pots and pans) to finish cleaning the plaster and smooth it off.
Repaint the frame to match the rest of the trim.
