The Specifications From The 3m Fire Barrier Ic 15wb Sealant For Drywall

When constructing a house or building, fire safety is of utmost importance. One method of increasing fire resistance is to employ a sealant such as 3M's Fire Barrier IC 15WB+, a substance that you can use on drywall and other surfaces.

Temperature and Burning

The 3M fire barrier sealant IC 15WB+ has a service temperature that ranges between -28 degrees and 82 degrees and an application temperature between 4 and 50 degrees. Application temperature refers to the temperature range within which the sealant can be serviced without compromising the material, and the service temperature is the range that the coat can take after installation on insulation.

In terms of flammability, the sealant has a flame spread rating of 5 and a smoke development of 50, measured under the ASTM E84 standard. Smoke development refers to the amount of smoke that the substance creates in a fire, and the flame spread rating refers to the intensity of flame distribution for the sealant.

Features

Sealants such as 3M IC 15WB+ reduce the transmission of sound and have an acoustic barrier STC-rating of 54. The substance is free of halogen, sag-resistant and is designed to be repairable. This 3M sealant can be covered with paint.

Properties

The tensile strength for this 3M fire barrier sealant measures 85 psi and features a hardness of 70 when tested under ASTM D 2240 Shore A standards. The volume shrinkage is 28 percent under ASTM C 1241 standards and the substance has a shelf life of one year when stored above 2 degrees.
