Repair Ripped Drywall Paper

Repair a torn piece of drywall paper.

Drywall is a highly versatile material that is used in practically every home. In many cases, the paper protecting the gypsum beneath can become torn accidentally. Fortunately, the remedy is relatively easy and straightforward. Properly perform the repair and restore the face of your drywall in a professional manner.

Instructions

1. Remove any extra loose paper hanging off of the drywall.

2. Apply a layer of drywall sealer over the damaged area with a paintbrush. Allow the sealer to air dry for two hours.

3. Scoop drywall compound onto a trowel and apply over the sealer. Use a fanning motion with the trowel to blend the compound between the edges of the damaged drywall and existing drywall. Allow the compound to air-dry for 24 hours. Repeat the process if the damage is still visible.

4. Sand the compound smooth using a damp sponge.

5. Apply a drywall primer to the repair with a paintbrush if you plan on painting the wall.
