Setting up Porcelain Tile In Lavatories

Choosing Tile

To choose the right tile, consider the use and placement of the bathroom tile. If it is going to be on the floor, the main concern is its slickness. You should try and find tile that is porous on the surface and is not glossy, so it will not become slippery when it is wet. Some tiles have a sand glaze that adds some traction; these are a great choice.

Installing the Tiles

When you tile a bathroom you should also use a chalk line to help you set tiles in straight. While the first row will most likely be set along a floor, a chalk line will ensure that the tiles are level and straight. When you are installing the last row of tiling, you may need to cut them since the tiles will probably not fit perfectly into the space you are refinishing. It helps to measure the area and figure out how many tiles you will need, and what size you will have to cut the final tiles to fit in that space. Cut the tiles before you begin so you do not have to interrupt grouting to cut them.

Grouting and Tiling

When you install tile in a bathroom you need to grout it into place. Grout is a thin cement mixture. To begin installing tile, simply cover a surface area of about four tiles high and wide with grout. Then, set the tiles on top of the grout. After you set one tile, place a plastic spacer on each side of it and then set the next tile into place. Continue to do this until the entire area you want tiled is covered with tile.
