Clean Alabaster

Alabaster Bowl

Alabaster is a beautiful soft stone that has been used to make knickknacks, bookends and carvings over the years. If you have items made from alabaster in your home, it's important to know clean these objects safely and effectively.

Instructions

Clean Alabaster

1. Avoid using water. Most people don't realize that water is the biggest enemy of alabaster and can ruin the appearance of the soft stone. Instead, dust your knickknacks and carvings made of alabaster regularly with a soft cloth.

2. Clean alabaster with dry borax in order to remove smoke build-up dirt and other debris. Dip a moistened soft cloth into dry borax and gently rub it on the object. Once finished, wipe thoroughly with a clean soft cloth.

3. Think nail polish remover. To remove stains from alabaster, it can do the trick. Spot test an area first and use nail polish remover sparingly. In order to remove the stain, dab a cotton swab in a little bit of nail polish remover (don't saturate it) and apply to stain.

4. Maintain your alabaster's beautiful appearance with regular dusting. A smoke-free environment will cut down on heavy cleaning and stain removal.
