Santa Fe is New Mexico's capital.
Called "the land of enchantment," New Mexico attracts visitors from around the world. From mountains in the north to desert in the south, the state offers a variety of historic, recreational and intellectual tourist pursuits.

Over 6.4 million domestic travelers visit New Mexico annually for leisure activities. Albuquerque and Santa Fe attract the most visitors. Besides Mexico and Canada, international visitors from Germany, the United Kingdom and the Netherlands top the list.
Location
Located in the U.S. southwest, New Mexico borders five states. In the northwest corner, famously known as "four corners," New Mexico joins Arizona, Colorado and Utah where visitors can simultaneously stand in all four states. In the southwest section, New Mexico borders Mexico and features one border crossing near Columbia.
History
Cliff dwellers inhabited the area over 1,000 years ago, followed by Spanish explorers in the 16th century. In 1607, the Spanish established Santa Fe as its capital, and it is today the oldest capital city in the United States and a center for artists.
National Parks
Thirteen national parks and monuments adorn the state, including Carlsbad Caverns National Park, which features 110 caves and is visited by over 300,000 people annually. White Sands National Monument contains the world's largest deposits of gypsum.
Festivals
The state boasts several festivals including the well-known International Balloon Festival in Albuquerque in October. For more esoteric pursuits, the UFO Museum and Research Center is located in Roswell, and features the UFO Festival in July.
Tourist Recreation
Skiers flock to Taos in the north well into spring, and hot mineral spring enthusiasts can find enjoyment throughout the state. One rustic option is Caliente Mineral Springs near Santa Fe.
