You can repair sheet rock to look like new.
Repairing holes in sheet rock can be accomplished with minimum effort. If your house has sheet rock to make up the walls, chances are you may have a hole or two to fix. Holes can be caused by nails, door knob or even someone's fist. No need to redo the entire wall--you can easily fill in the holes and have your wall looking new.
Instructions
Regular holes
1. Put a small amount of Spackle putty on the tip of a putty knife and fill the hole. Feather out the edges of the putty to make it look like a normal part of the wall.
2. Allow the putty to dry, according to manufacturer's directions.
3. Sand any areas of the putty that aren't smooth. Blow away the dust and wipe the area clean.
4. Touch-up the repair with paint that matches your wall.
Bigger Holes
5. Cover the hole completely with mesh tape. Place the tape vertically then horizontally.
6. Apply joint compound in a thin layer over the mesh tape, extending six inches beyond the hole in all directions.
7. Allow the joint compound to dry, according to manufacturer's directions.
8. Sand the area lightly and blow away the dust.
9. Repeat step 2, making the repair level with the rest of the wall.
10. Repeat step 3.
11. Sand the area again and apply the final coat of joint compound. After the area is completely dry, sand and texture the area to match the rest of your wall. Touch-up the area with paint.
