A plain gypsum wall can be decorated with faux brick.
Faux brick is an easy way to add warmth and charm to your home. If you are attaching brick tile panels to a wall made of a gypsum such as cement, you will not be able to depend on glue alone to hold the tiles in place. You must purchase tiles that have screw holes pre-drilled so that you can screw it to the wall in addition to using glue.
Instructions
Initial Work
1. Measure the height and width of the wall that you want to cover with brick tiles.
2. Multiply the height and width measurements together to obtain the square feet.
3. Purchase enough brick tiles to cover the wall. Have a store associate help you select the number of tiles: many varieties interlock, which may affect their coverage.
4. Cover the area around the wall with a plastic tarp to make cleanup easier.
5. Position the first tile at the base of the wall.
6. Mark the tile's screw holes onto the wall with a pencil.
7. Drill a pilot hole into each pencil mark with a masonry bit. It should be slightly narrower than the shaft of a screw.
8. Apply construction glue rated for cement or concrete to the back of the tile.
9. Replace the tile, lining up the screw holes with the wall's pilot holes.
10. Screw the tile to the wall with masonry screws, countersinking the screw head slightly below the tile surface. Wipe away any glue that squeezes out with a wet paper towel.
11. Slide the next tile in place and mark, drill, glue and screw as you did the first. Repeat this process until the wall is covered. Use a sharp saw and carpenter's square to make straight cuts on the pieces at the ends of the wall.
12. Cover the screw heads with wood putty. Allow it to dry, then sand and paint it as desired.
