Fresh paint An Ornamental Gypsum Board

Always prime gypsum before painting.

Gypsum is commonly called drywall and is a plaster plank compressed in between two very thick sheets of paper. Gypsum is commonly used as the interior wall and ceiling material and is applied directly to the studs of the building frame. Gypsum board is a raw material and needs to be properly treated to be successfully painted.

Instructions

1. Tape off all areas not to be painted like baseboard molding, windows and window and door trim. Use painter's tape for this process. Lay down plastic sheeting to protect the floor's surface from paint spills and splatters.

2. Prime gypsum board with a high quality primer. Cut in the edges, meaning paint around the wall edges and around obstacles like windows, doors and trim work with a small paint brush. Roll primer on the wall with a paint roller. Cover the entire surface with primer. If the gypsum board absorbs the primer and leaves an uneven appearance, apply another coat of primer.

3. Paint the primed gypsum wall with interior paint. Cut in the edges and around windows and doors. Roll the paint onto the wall with a paint roller. If the paint color is much darker than the primer color, be prepared to paint two or three coats for full coverage.
