Install Bath tub Sheetrock

If installed properly your bathtub Sheetrock will last a lifetime.

Whether you are building a new home, or remodeling the bathroom in your existing home, installing bathroom Sheetrock is a must do thing. The bathroom is a room of high humidity. Installing Sheetrock in the bathroom is different than installing it in any other room because of the extra moisture. It is especially important to take care of how you install bathtub Sheetrock to prevent future problems such as mold.

Instructions

1. The bathtub has been removed. Your ready for the next step. It's time to install Sheetrock on the walls behind and surrounding the bathtub. Do the back wall first, and then the side wall, or walls. Use moisture-resistant Sheetrock only. It is green and sold wherever Sheetrock is available. It costs a little more but is the best and only way to go when installing bathtub Sheetrock.

2. Measure the height and the width of the wall behind where the bathtub sits. If a full sheet of Sheetrock can fit, 4 ft. by 8 ft., then plan to insert the whole piece and cut the remaining pieces to fit. Do this by measuring with a tape measure, marking the Sheetrock, and then cutting with a Sheetrock knife. There may be a need for several pieces to be cut and fit into place, as the walls in a bathroom are generally smaller, especially around the bathtub.

3. Once all of your pieces are cut, it's time to install the bathtub Sheetrock. Use a drill with a Phillips head bit and Sheetrock screws to attach the Sheetrock to the wall securely. Place the screws four inches apart down or along the studs. Only screw into studs to avoid damage to the Sheetrock.

4. Once all of the Sheetrock is installed on the wall, tape the seams using Sheetrock tape. Cut the tape using a utility knife. Using a mud knife apply the Sheetrock mud generously and smooth well. Allow to dry and apply another coat. Allow to dry, and then sand using sandpaper or an electric sander. Sand until smooth.

5. Apply the clear silicone caulk to the seams along the ceiling and the floor. The acts as a moisture barrier so that water cannot go between the wall and ceiling or wall and floor. Paint the Sheetrock with a primer, then with a paint labeled for bathrooms or areas of high moisture. You can also cover with a bathtub surround, or with tile. Replace your bathtub, and all that's left to do is the plumbing.
