Worldwide Construction Associations

Several associations exist to support the international construction industry.

According to "The Economic Times," the world construction industry generates an estimated $7.5 trillion annually. The international infrastructure construction market is expected to grown by 128 percent by 2020. Several international associations exist to facilitate legal, technical and political issues of international concern to the construction industry.

Confederation of International Contractors' Associations

The Confederation of International Contractors' Associations is an international non-profit, volunteer association of four regional construction industry federations that consists of firms in 63 countries. These include the Federation of Arab Contractors, the European Construction Industry Federation, the Inter-American Federation of the Construction Industry and the Federation of United States and Canadian Contractors Associations. Founded in 1976, the association acts as a forum for firms to discuss information like technical knowledge, development strategy and engineering breakthroughs as well as to lobby for the industry's dealings with public organizations worldwide.

International Construction Project Management Association

The International Construction Project Management Association is a non-profit organization founded in Cannes, France in 2001. The association comprises industry professionals, engineering academics and labor association representatives who aim to set and enforce international standards for construction project management, share and develop industry knowledge and gain recognition for the field. The association maintains an online knowledge management center for member firms and organizes conferences, seminars and research related to construction project management.

The International Construction Information Society

The International Construction Information Society comprises 19 member organizations in 15 countries spanning five continents. North American members include the US Construction Specification Institute and Constructions Specifications Canada. The association works to provide international communication among construction industry firms through the development of international standards on technical specifications and information technology elements in the field. The ICIS also seeks to foster the growing expectation of functionality and utility of contemporary buildings.
