Bidding on a sheetrock job includes measuring the total square footage to obtain the bid total.
When you are bidding on a drywall job, whether for a room or an entire house, each area needs to be measured to calculate a bid. Generally, there is a set price per-square-foot that includes hanging, taping, and floating. Often contractors will add an additional charge per-square-foot for texturing and painting.
Instructions
1. Draw a sketch of the room on a piece of paper with a pen. Mark the name of the room on the sketch.
2. Measure the wall height in a room. Write the height down in feet and inches on your drawing for this room.
3. Measure the horizontal length of one wall and record it in inches on the sketch. Measure the horizontal length of the additional walls and record each measurement on the sketch. Add the horizontal lengths together to obtain the perimeter of the room. For example a room that is 12 feet by 14 feet would have a perimeter of 12 + 12 + 14 + 14 or 52 feet.
4. Multiply the perimeter by the room height to obtain the total square footage. For this example, if the room is 8 feet tall and the perimeter is 52 feet, the total square footage in feet is 8 x 52 = 416 square feet.
5. Continue sketching, measuring and calculating the amount of drywall for each room in the house or building. Add the total square footage for each room together to obtain the house or building's total square feet. Multiply the price that you charge per-foot for the services the homeowner requires by the house or building total square footage.
