Remedy Flooring Adhesive Guide

Armstrong manufactures a wide range of commercial and residential flooring in the form of sheets, tiles and laminates. Many of these flooring options require adhesive to install them over certain surfaces. There are several adhesive choices; selection depends on the subfloor material and which type of Armstrong flooring you're installing.

S-202 Static Dissipative Tile Adhesive

S-202 tile adhesive is a water-based resin adhesive designed for use with Armstrong's static dissipative tiles (SDT). It adheres to all grades of concrete and suspended wood and has a working time of six hours.

Felt-Backed Sheet Flooring

S-235 premium and S-254 are water-based rubber-resin adhesives, intended for use with Armstrong's commercial and residential felt-backed flooring. They adhere to concrete, resilient and polymeric poured flooring, terrazzo, ceramic, marble, steel, lead, aluminum and suspended wood floors. S-235 also adheres to copper, brass and bronze. Working time is about 40 minutes for S-235 and half that time for S-254.

Epoxy

S-240 epoxy adhesive is for use with Armstrong's commercial linoleum, luxury vinyl tiles, vinyl-backed flooring and inlaid flooring installations, as well as for stair treads and rubber tiles. Working time for S-240 adhesive is about one hour.

Residential Vinyl-Backed Sheet Flooring

S-288 and S-289 adhesives are intended for use with Armstrong's residential vinyl-backed sheet flooring. S-288 can also be used to install Residential LVT planks and commercial luxury vinyl tiles. Both are water-based rubber-resin adhesives suitable for installing over concrete, suspended wood and resilient floors, ceramic, marble and polymeric poured floors. On nonporous subfloors, S-288 has a working time of 30 minutes and an hour over preexisting flooring. S-289 has an unlimited working time.

Vinyl Composition Tiles

Intended for use with vinyl composition tile, S-515 adhesive may be used in commercial and residential applications. It is a water-based rubber-resin adhesive that will adhere to concrete, ceramic tile, terrazzo, marble, polymeric poured floors and suspended wood floors. Working time is about 24 hours, depending on job conditions.

Commercial Vinyl Sheet Flooring

S-543 Premium Plus adhesive is intended for use with Armstrong commercial vinyl-backed, inlaid and luxury vinyl tile flooring. It is a water-based latex-resin adhesive that will adhere to concrete, polymeric poured and resilient floors, ceramic, marble, steel, aluminum, and suspended wood floors. Its working time is up to 8 hours after the adhesive is dry to the touch. S-599 Premium adhesive can also be used with commercial vinyl-backed flooring, as well as inlaid and felt-backed flooring. It is a water-based resin that will adhere to the same surfaces as S-543 and is workable up to one hour after it is dry to the touch.

Thin Spread Adhesives

For vinyl composition tile and Biobased tile installation, use S-700 thin spread floor tile adhesive or S-750 Premium floor tile adhesive. S-700 is a water-based asphalt-rubber adhesive that adheres to concrete, ceramic, steel, aluminum, lead, copper, brass, bronze and suspended wood floors. S-750, a water-based rubber-resin, adheres to the same surfaces, except for metal. Working time for S-700 adhesive is up to 18 hours. S-750 has a working time of 6 hours and can also be used as a primer for wood and concrete when laying self-stick tiles.

Linoleum

An ideal adhesive for commercial and residential linoleum sheet flooring, Armstrong's S-780 adhesive is a synthetic polymer that adheres to concrete, resilient floors that are not cushion-backed, terrazzo, steel, aluminum, wood, gypsum and radiant heat subfloors. Its working time is up to 25 minutes.
