Repair A Bubble In Drywall

A bubble in drywall is caused by either air or water that pushes out on the outer layer of the drywall. Many times this occurs on a joint where drywall tape was placed. A bubble in the drywall should be fixed promptly to avoid the problem becoming worse and affecting a larger area of the drywall. This repair is accomplished in about 20 minutes, not counting drying time and painting. If the proper procedure is followed, even the novice can achieve a professional-looking result.

Instructions

1. Cut around the base of the bubble using a utility knife. Ensure that you do not cut into the good drywall but only the part that is bubbled. Use the knife to cut off as much of the bubble as you can.

2. Scrape the affected area with a 6-inch drywall knife to remove any remaining flakes or loose pieces.

3. Spread joint compound into the affected area, and smooth it even with the edge of the drywall knife. The idea is to fill the area and smooth it even with the rest of the wall. Let the joint compound dry for 24 hours.

4. Sand the area with a drywall sanding sponge. Ensure that you remove any high areas or flecks of dried joint compound. If the area still has low spots, spread on another coat of joint compound, and sand it after it dries.

5. Paint the area with matching paint and a paintbrush.
