Get Rid Of Sheetrock

Perhaps you just completed a basement remodel, or maybe you patched a few holes in the wall of your living room. Either way, you are left with scrap pieces of drywall. Larger pieces of new drywall can be used in future projects. However, damaged drywall must be properly disposed of. Many states do not allow you to throw the drywall away in your trash can. Disposing of it the correct way takes a phone call or two, and helps keep our environment cleaner.

Instructions

1. Call your local waste management company. Their phone number is available in your local yellow pages. Ask if they participate in a drywall recycling program. If not, ask if they accept drywall in trash cans. If they don't, ask them to direct you to a hauler or dump site that does take drywall.

2. Call your local solid waste hauler. Many counties have a handful of haulers around the area. Tell them you have drywall you need picked up. A fee may be charged.

3. Look up the location of your local landfill or transfer station. Cut the old drywall into manageable pieces with either a drywall saw or an exacto knife. Since the drywall is being disposed of, breaking it with your hands or lifting one end up and stepping on it would work too. Put the drywall into the bed of a truck and drive it to the landfill. A small fee is normally charged for disposal.
