Work With Metal Studs
Most of the time we think of wood when speaking of construction, probably because most buildings are made from wood. But some buildings are actually constructed primarily from steel. Metal studs are a great alternative to wood studs and come with advantages. Read through a few simple steps to find out how you too can work with metal studs.
Instructions
1. Use metal cutters, called snips, to cut and bend metal studs. Metal studs are fabricated from a 20 gauge lightweight steel, and are easy to manipulate.
2. Cut metal studs using a chop saw, with a fibrous metal blade.
3. Slip the metal studs into the top and bottom plates, screwing them in place using a cordless screw gun and self tapping sheet metal screws.
4. Pull gas and electric lines through pre-drilled holes in certain locations on your metal studs.
5. Attach a vapor barrier to the metal studs using double face carpet tape. Apply a rigid foam insulation between the outside wall and the metal studs to prevent cold transfer.
