The Benefits Of Wet Process Use Within Cement Industry

When processing cement there are advantages to using a wet process.

Grinding raw materials to create cement can be achieved by either using moisture, as in wet processing, or utilizing gas, as is done in dry processing. While there are advantage in utilizing the wet process, the same basic chemical reactions take place to create this hard, versatile material.

Dry Process

In the dry process of grinding cement, raw materials are measured, separated and ground to a powder without the use of moisture. They are then blended together and fed to a kiln while dry.

Wet Process

In the wet process, raw materials are also measured and separated, but water is added creating what is called a slurry where grinding and blending operations are completed. This is then poured into a tilted rotating, cylindrical kiln.

Advantages of Wet Processesing

While dry processing has several benefits including less fuel usage, there are many advantages of wet processing as well. First, because of the nature of liquids, this process is ideal for irregular surface applications. Additionally, wet processing works well if the raw materials are moist. Finally, when a wet slurry is dried in the kiln, it becomes a crumble that is palpable for later heating in that kiln.
