Bend Drywall

Drywall is a construction material used to give a smooth surface to walls and ceilings which can be easily painted. The problem with drywall is that it can be a bit difficult to work with when you aren't working with flat surfaces. Many people will try to use smaller portions of drywall in order to fit it to a curved wall or surface, but it's possible to actually bend drywall without much difficulty in order to use full sheets.

Instructions

1. Using a scoring knife, make horizontal cuts in the paper on one side of the drywall. You should keep the cuts about an inch apart, making sure that they don't go very deep into the drywall. You're goal will be to score the paper on the one side in order to let the drywall bend while the paper on the other side holds it together.

2. Put the drywall into place, bending it along the curve of the wall or ceiling. Screw the drywall into place starting at the bottom and working your way up a few inches at a time. The uncut side should be on the outside when putting it into place, though you should make sure that you don't put enough pressure onto it to crack or break this layer of paper.

3. If the drywall does not want to bend easily after it was been scored, use a wet sponge to soften the paper and the plaster underneath. This will help the drywall to conform to the shape of the wall or ceiling that you are applying the drywall to. Do this a little bit at a time in order to keep from softening the drywall too much.

4. If any small tears or breaks appear in the drywall once you bend it, you can sand them down when you begin the process of finishing the drywall. Plastering and sanding the drywall will cover up any small tears that occur so that you won't be able to see them when the room has been painted.
