Wallboard is a material in most homes. Also known as "sheetrock," it consists of a white chalky material, gypsum, compressed between two sheets of thick paper. Wallboard is easy to cut by hand with a utility knife. The hardest part of cutting wallboard is getting your lines straight. If you measure properly, take your time and handle it with care, cutting wall board can be fun.
Instructions
1. Lay the wallboard out across two sawhorses. Using your tape measure, mark off the place where you want your cut-line to start and stop.
2. Align the straightedge with the marks and clamp it down using the hand clamps.
3. Pick up the knife. Place the tip of it alongside the edge of the straightedge. Cut along the straightedge to a depth of 1/16 inch to establish the cut line and cut through the first layer of paper.
4. Cut along the line again, this time using more downward force, and cut halfway through the wall board. Cut along the line one more time; your cut should be almost through to the opposite paper, but don't cut through the paper.
5. Grab the wallboard on the opposite side of the straightedge. Give the wallboard a sharp downward push with your hand. The wallboard will break at the cut line. Hold on to the piece that broke with one hand. With the other hand, insert the knife into the cut-line and in one steady movement, slice down the line, cutting through the paper, cutting the wallboard free from the other piece.
