Instructions
1. Rub the steel wool lightly along your picture frame to smooth out any rough spots or edges. Press the wool into the creased edges where two frame rails meet. Each corner has a joint that should be cleaned as equally as the highest surface of the frame. Evenly clean each frame rail until old coatings are removed completely or partially.
2. Point one finger into a clean cloth and dip the cloth into linseed oil. Rub the oiled cloth using a single finger tip over all the deep crevasses and corners. Do not coat the entire wooden art frame with oil. Use the oil to reach into cracks, crevices, and ornamental woodwork.
3. Clean and wipe dry the entire frame front and back, using a dry, clean cloth, prior to restoring the remaining wooden surfaces. Now is the time to eliminate any and all dust from the frame, front and back.
4. Moisten a clean cloth with the paste wax. Rub the moistened cloth on the wood surfaces of the frame. Leave behind a light coat of wax. Let the wax sit for three minutes. While you wait you can do another frame or close the top of the linseed oil to keep it from evaporating. Always work in a clean area to prevent damage to frames you are restoring.
5. Wipe any excess wax off with a clean, dry cloth. Wipe the front and back of the frame. Get into the cracks and corners and fish out clumpy deposits of wax that may be left behind. Polish the wooden art frame to the desired sheen to complete restoration.
