Use Selfadhesive Drywall Tape

Joining drywall sections requires a variety of tools.

Major remodeling in any room of your home can be time-consuming. That's why you should use products that will reduce the time and effort you need to put into your do-it-yourself project. Self-adhesive drywall tape is one such product. This tape decreases the amount of time that it will take you to prepare your new drywall for wallpaper or paint. The purpose of self-adhesive drywall tape is to create a seamless joint between sections of drywall, without the extra mess of using multiple layers of compound.

Instructions

1. Line the end of the drywall tape up with the drywall joint, starting at the ceiling and working toward the floor.

2. Use the scissors to cut the drywall tape at the end of the joint.

3. Peel off the paper backing to expose the adhesive on the tape.

4. Press the tape along the joint in the same manner you used for measuring it out. Keep the tape even and smooth.

5. Apply a thin, even layer of joint compound directly onto the whole length of drywall tape using the drywall knife, following the manufacturer's instructions.

6. Allow the joint compound to cure for 24 hours.

7. Use the medium-grit sandpaper and a sanding block or pole sander to gently smooth the joint compound to remove large ridges and gaps.

8. Sand again, using the fine-grit sandpaper, running your hand along the joint compound. Stop sanding when the joint compound feels completely smooth.
