Light Switches & Baby Safety

Insuring baby safety throughout the home can be a daunting task.

New parents know baby safety around the home is important, but unfortunately it is easy to overlook hazards such as light switches. Even if you don't have babies or young children living in your home, you should be aware of light switches and other safety issues if your friends or family visit with their children.

Light Switches

Safety light switch covers fit every kind of light switch.

Light switches are an important safety issue when it comes to small children in the home. Light switches attract children, but if is important to remember that they are an electrical device and not a toy. Light switch guards should be installed on all of the switches throughout the house, not just the ones the child can easily access. A light switch guard is easy to install and still leaves the switch functional for adults.

Baby Gates

Baby gates also work as a swinging door for adults.

Installing baby gates in the house where they are needed is another safety measure that needs to be taken to prevent injuries. Anywhere a child might access stair steps or unguarded light switches should be blocked off with a baby gate. Baby gates are very easy to use and require no tools for installation. Usually made of a durable plastic with rounded edges, these gates adjust to fit most doorway openings.

Cleaners And Detergents

It is always important to keep harmful cleaners out of childrens reach.

All household cleaners and detergents are safety hazards to babies and young children. It is important to keep all cleaning agents up high and out of reach. Safety latches can be purchased at most retail stores with a baby department. These latches, which prevent children from opening cabinet doors, are inexpensive and easy to install.

Electrical Outlets

Keeping a home safe for babies creates peace of mind for the parents.

Protecting your baby or small children from electrical outlets in the home is very important. Purchase outlet safety caps and inserting them into all of your electrical outlets.,Outlet safety caps usually come in packs of two or four and are large enough that babies won't be able to choke on them. These caps are made of a durable plastic and snap into the electrical outlets, making it impossible for the child to insert anything into the outlet.
