Joint compound is an all-purpose patch and finish material.
Joint compound is used to seal the seams of drywall constructions as well as for patching material on plaster or Sheetrock walls. Joint compound is available in pre-mixed form, which is ready to be applied to the wall surface. Joint compound can be applied directly to the wall surface or used in combination with masking tape when finishing wall seams. Knowing properly and quickly dry joint compound can save you valuable time and effort as well as ensure that your plasterwork looks good and lasts for a long time.
Instructions
1. Check that the temperature of the room in which you will be applying your joint compound is at least 50 degrees Fahrenheit, for a period of at least 24 hours prior to the application. Monitor your thermometer. Keep the room in which your joint compound has been applied at a minimum temperature of 50 degrees Fahrenheit to ensure proper drying and setting.
2. Use a fan with an oscillating feature to keep the room well-ventilated. The moving air will help remove moisture from the room and from the compound itself, resulting in faster drying times.
3. Allow your joint compound to dry for a period of at least 12 hours. Once it is completely dry, joint compound can be sanded, additional coats can be added and paint can be applied. Your joint compound will turn completely white and will not contain any dark spots when it is has dried completely.
