Tips About Using Highgloss Glaze Spray

Tips on Using High-Gloss Glaze Spray

Spray finishes allow the crafty artist to permanently seal his or her work against the wear and tear of the elements. This protection is particularly useful for easily smudged or water-soluble art, and for those objects the artist will place outside. Finishes usually come in three varieties, glossy, satin or matte. Glossy finishes provide a shining luster to whatever they are sprayed on and bring out the colors in your artwork.

Ventilation

The major health concern for gloss spray is the potential for inhalation. The fumes are quite unhealthy, so always wear a face mask or a respirator when you spray it. Make sure you use it in a well-ventilated area. If you spray indoors, turn on a fan and crack a window. Spraying it outdoors is the best option because the fumes dissipate more readily. However, if you do spray outdoors, make sure you stand upwind of the object you are spraying.

Longevity

Not all gloss spray is created equal. Take this into account when you spray your object. The kind of spray you want to use depends on whether you care about the condition of the object in the long term. If you're going to use it only once, use any spray. However, if you plan on spraying artwork you want to keep for years, invest in good-quality spray. The can should say that the spray is non-yellowing, meaning it won't discolor with age. Even better is if it says it is UV-resistant. UV-resistant spray protects the colors of your object from deteriorating under the harsh effects of natural sunlight. It will not entirely prevent it, but it certainly helps.

Uses

Glossy spray is not the correct choice for every situation. For one thing, it is difficult to photograph. If you are going to take pictures of your object, consider using a mild satin or completely matte spray instead. But glossy spray excels at bringing out metallic and iridescent colors. The added sheen really makes these colors eye-popping, so consider using glossy spray with metallic powders or shimmering paint effects.
