Bullnose corners offer a rounded wall transition from one room to an adjoining room or to a hallway, replacing the traditional crisp vertical wall corners. Sheetrock is a brand name of gypsum wallboard, used to construct smooth interior walls. Taping bullnose corners is similar to taping square corners, but you'll use a different corner bead to get a nice rounded shape.
Instructions
1. Prepare the drywall corners by installing the Sheetrock panels 1/2-inch from the end of the corner wall stud. This is different from standard drywall installation, which laps the ends of the panels.
2. Measure and cut a strip of adhesive bullnose corner bead one inch shorter than the length of the corner you're taping.
3. Remove the protective strips from each side on the back of the bullnose corner bead and position the bead over the wall corner, pushing it as high as it will go. Smooth it firmly into place with your fingers.
4. Spread wet joint compound over the sides of the corner bead, pushing it through the holes in the bead and into the gap beneath. Use enough compound to quickly but completely fill the gap, and cover the side flanges of the corner bead.
5. Smooth away excess joint compound with the 6-inch knife, but don't worry about globs that remain on the bullnose corner.
6. Switch to a 10-inch taping knife to feather out the mud flush with the two walls. The larger taping blade distributes the mud in a thinner layer over a wider section of the wall, making the corner look like a single unit.
7. Pull a bullnose corner tool from the top to the bottom of the corner in one long, even swipe. The corner tool is inexpensive, often made from plastic, but it greatly reduces the labor required to smooth out the rounded corner.
8. Let the joint compound dry, and then sand down the edges with a drywall sanding pad. Sand over the rounded corner, too, but take care not to remove all the compound coating.
9. Repeat the mudding procedure, using only the 10-inch taping knife and the bullnose taping tool, at least two more times for the best results.
