Durock cement board is used in damp areas behind tiles and in shower stalls. Durock is resistant to mold, mildew and breaking down in water. To break the cement board it must first be scored then snapped into pieces. The ease of scoring and breaking this product has been noted by carpenters and contractors since the product was released by USG Products.
Instructions
1. Lay the board flat on the ground. Measure and mark the location of the break. Set a straightedge along the breaking line.
2. Run a carbide blade utility knife along the straightedge. Score the board with the blade so it cuts the board's mesh.
3. Snap the board away from you. Press your knees on the board on one side of the score line. Pull up on the opposite side of the board. The board will snap along the score line.
4. Cut the mesh on the break line to separate the two pieces.
5. File smooth with a rasp any ragged edges along the break. Wear a dust mask to prevent cement particles from entering your lungs while you file.
