Repair Loose Drywall Paper

Drywall consists of plasterboard covered with paper on one side. Sometimes, after the drywall is installed, the paper can become loose. The paper is important because it provides a bond that helps protect the plaster from falling apart. Repairing drywall paper that has become loose is accomplished with a few materials and a little know-how. The entire job requires a couple of days, including drying time. The drywall can be painted or wallpapered after the repair is completed.

Instructions

1. Dig some joint compound out of the bucket with the 6-inch drywall knife. Only get a small amount of joint compound on the edge of the knife.

2. Spread the joint compound onto the loose paper in the direction that it is ripped so that it lays flat. Use the very edge of the knife to remove excess joint compound so that it is smooth as possible. Allow the joint compound to dry for 24 hours.

3. Sand the repaired area with a drywall sanding sponge to smooth out any ridges or bumps. Paint or wallpaper as desired.
