Attach Metal To Abs plastic

Metal and fiberglass are completely different materials in every aspect. Attempting to join these two dissimilar materials may seem nearly impossible. However, certain modern adhesives have been formulated for just this task. They contain a two-part epoxy formula with properties that adhere to both metal, of all types, and fiberglass. These adhesives need some surface preparation first, and then the two parts must be combined. Once these stipulations are met, metal and fiberglass can be attached successfully.

Instructions

1. Sand and smooth the metal piece to which you will attach the fiberglass with a disc sander, or regular sandpaper for smaller jobs. The more the metal conforms to the shape of the fiberglass, the better the adhesion will be between the two.

2. Mix the two-part epoxy together in a bucket, cup or bowl. Use whichever container fits the size of the job. Once mixed, you will have about four hours of work time before the epoxy formula sets.

3. Brush the two-part adhesive onto the metal that will be attached to the fiberglass. Be liberal with this application, and make sure all the metal is completely covered.

4. Place the fiberglass onto the glued metal parts, and clamp them together. Turn the clamps tight enough to ensure a solid seal, but do not over-tighten and force all of the adhesive out of the joint.

5. Wipe away all the excess adhesive with a rag before it dries. It is far easier to wipe excess when the adhesive is still wet than waiting for it to dry and having to pry or sand it off.
