If you know put drywall onto concrete, you can transform your basement into a game room or an extra bedroom. Concrete basement walls can be drab and unsightly, but with the right tools and direction, anyone can turn them into finished walls. Drywall is made of gypsum plaster which is covered with fiberglass or heavyweight paper. Drywall's main advantage over other building materials is the fact that it is easy to install and is long lasting.
Instructions
1. Apply building glue to the back of the furring strip and run it horizontally across the top edge of the wall. The end strip of furring will need to be measured and cut to fit with a hand saw or skill saw. Use a screw gun to screw self tapping concrete screws every two feet across the furring strip.
2. Apply building glue to the back of the furring strip and place along the bottom edge of wall. As in step one, the end strip of furring will need to be measured and cut. Use a screw gun to screw self tapping concrete screws every 2 feet across the furring strip.
3. Measure and lay out lines for vertical furring strips. The vertical furring strips will be placed 16 inches apart down the entire wall. Hook the tape measure to the bottom edge of the furring and mark a line every 16 inches. Make the same marks on the top furring strip.
4. Install vertical furring strips. Apply building glue on the back face of the furring strip and place vertically on the wall so that it matches the lines marked out on the top and bottom furring strips from step three. Use the screw gun to then screw self tapping concrete screws every three feet into the vertical furring strip. Repeat this step top all vertical furring strips.
5. Install wring or plumbing as needed; the furring strips make a perfect space to run utilities if not previously installed. Place drywall over the furring and use the screw gun with drywall screws to attach to the edges first. Then mark out every 16 inches on the drywall and screw the face of the drywall to the furring.
