Be A Denturist

Denturists, also known as clinical dental technicians, create oral prosthesis, including dentures and partial dentures. In addition, they can provide dental examinations for patients. This highly specialized career requires a great amount of dedication, education, and accreditation.

Instructions

1. Ensure you want to enter a career as a denturist. You will need to dedicate great time and effort to enter this field, so talk with a local denturist to see what it is actually like.

2. Apply to colleges that have well known pre-dentistry programs during your junior year of high school, such as Pacific College, Baylor University, Ball State University or the University of Nebraska.

3. Graduate from high school with a good grade point average. Pre-dentistry programs are competitive, so aim to have at least a 3.5 on a 4.0 scale.

4. During college, ensure you take at least two years of pre-dentistry courses. This is a prerequisite to enter dental school.

5. Maintain a high grade point average in college. Getting into dental school is much more competitive than entering an undergraduate program.

6. Prepare to take the Dental Admission Test (DAT) at least a year before you graduate with your bachelor's degree. To take the test, you will need to have completed one year of college level biology or chemistry courses.

7. Apply to dental schools during your junior year of college. You can apply to each school directly, or go through the American Association of Dental Schools Application Service (AADSAS).

8. Obtain your Doctor of Dentistry degree, and then take two years of specialized courses to become a denturist.

9. Take your state's dental examination or the National Board Dental Examination (NBDE) to become licensed. Many states do not have specific testing just for dental specializations, so you will likely be taking a general dentistry exam.
