Dandelions can cause problems for gardeners.
The dandelion is a hardy perennial, much to the annoyance of gardeners. Able to survive several years by growing a crown up to 10 inches wide, dandelions can quickly spread all over a lawn by releasing seeds that are carried by wind. The good news is that you can stop dandelions with completely natural methods.
Instructions
1. Mow your lawn as soon as you see dandelions blooming, to stop them maturing into seeds.
2. Dig out dandelion plants with a dandelion digger, a tool designed to remove weeds from the root without adversely affecting the surrounding soil. Insert the digger into the soil parallel to the tap root, then twist the digger to pull up the entire plant.
3. Boil water and pour it over the dandelion plants to kill them.
4. Cover dandelion plants with large pieces of cardboard or black plastic garbage bags to suffocate them and starve them of light. Cover the cardboard or plastic with grass clippings, compost or bark to improve the look.
5. Fill a pan with household vinegar, and heat it on the stove until it is warm. Transfer it to a jug, and pour it over the dandelion plants. Vinegar contains acid, which kills the plants but does not cause pollution. Repeat the application as necessary.
6. Apply Corn gluten meal (CGM) to the lawn at least four weeks before the dandelion plants germinate. This stops root formation, which normally occurs during seed germination. Follow the manufacturer's directions, and repeat the application as necessary during the growing season, since not all dandelions sprout at the same time.
7. Burn the dandelion plants with a weed burner torch.
