Sheetrock is a brand name of drywall used for interior walls that is manufactured by the USG Corporation. Oftentimes, mold can grow on the drywall. When this happens, it must immediately be removed and controlled safely. The common mold that can grow on Sheetrock is black mold, which has been extremely hazardous, and is often caused by water damage. It's important to be cautious when dealing with mold; seek help from a profession if necessary. Also, one should not use mold removing substances like vinegar on the Sheetrock.
Instructions
1. Dampen a sponge in a bucket of soap and hot water and scrub the mold on the Sheetrock. Make sure that you wear latex gloves and a surgical mask to protect you from breathing in the mold. Leave the area to dry for an hour or more.
2. Use a disinfectant on the mold area after it has dried. Spray the area with the disinfectant and then dry the area with a paper towel. Dampen the area with water one more time if there is still mold in the drywall. Leave the mold area slightly wet.
3. Use a utility knife to cut out the area that has mold in the Sheetrock. Make sure to remove the entire surface that contains the mold and not all of the drywall. Strip away the back lining until there is no longer any sign of mold.
4. Fill in the area you have removed with a new joint compound, which can be purchased at your local hardware store. Make sure that you get the compound specifically for Sheetrock. Spread the compound evenly using a drywall knife.
5. Use the knife and sandpaper to smoothly sand down the compound. Add more of the compound after it has dried if you need to. Continue smoothing the area over with sand paper until it looks like it did before.
